Due to acquisitions, our client had over 30 Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and needed to consolidate on SAP. To prepare for the system migration to SAP, they needed to clean and deduplicate data from the legacy systems. The data spanned 15 domains, including clients, customers, vendors, products, and locations. A Master Data Management (MDM) solution was required to prepare the data and provide a mechanism for ongoing management and governance of the data.
As the client was planning to consolidate their ERP solution on SAP, we prototyped the SAP Master Data Management (MDM) solution. After determining the SAP MDM solution did not meet the requirements, we implemented an MDM solution using Profisee Master Data Maestro and Master Data Services (MDS) from Microsoft. This solution was implemented successfully and incorporated all required domains, including support for georeference data. We deployed the solution one domain at a time with each domain requiring an average of 1 to 2 months to achieve a unified, consistent source of data.
Data governance was supported by data approval workflows and map, merge, and survivorship strategies. The solution included harmonization to ensure the data changes in one application are synchronized with all other applications in the landscape who depend on that data.
We were able to provide the client with a consistent, consolidated view of their data that had previously been spread across a number of repositories. The client is now well positioned for their migration to SAP.
